Desert treking in Morocco.

Ceremony

The ceremony begins on Saturday, Jun 18 at 4pm with reception and celebration to follow.

Lyngsjö Kyrka (Lyngsjö Church, “ling-fwah shur-kah”)
Degebergavägen, Lyngsjö, 297 72 Kristianstad

Although Sweden is one of the least religious countries, traditional rituals and ceremonies are performed in the church.

Four generations of the Folkesson family and many friends have been baptized, married, and memorialized in this 12th Century church. Jenny’s grandparents (Anders’ parents) are buried near the path to the entrance.

Lyngsjö church may be quaint, but it’s pipe organ packs a solid punch. The church may be best known for it’s baptismal font, which depicts the murder of Saint Thomas of Canterbury. Anders has previously served on the historical board for the church. More history on wikipedia.

Reception

Lyngby Gård Bränneri (Lyngby Farm Distillery, “ling-bee gourd bryn-er-ree”)
Södra Lyngbyvägen 165, 297 92 Everöd, Sweden

The Lyngby Farm Distillery was originally built in 1820. The distillery produced potato vodka until the 1970s. The distillery building is a cultural landmark featured on the museum in Kristianstad due to it’s unique granite façade and exhaust chimney. Renovation of the distillery into an event space was completed in 2015. Guests will enjoy a spacious dining hall, dance hall, bar with high ceilings, cozy wine cellar, and a grass courtyard.

The Lyngby Farm originated the 1600s but is now a modern farm with beautiful buildings in a picturesque setting of eastern Skåne. The farm covers 540 hectares, including a dairy, a pig farm, and four wind turbines. Crops include corn, potatoes, sugar beets, rye, oats, barley, and wheat. The power generated by the wind turbines provides much of the farm’s power. More info: lyngbygard.se, facebook.com/lyngbygard

Traditions

Sweden, like many European countries, is rich with tradition. Here are a few wedding traditions Beau has recently learned…

Travel

Flights

The largest international airport nearby is Copenhagen (CPH), Denmark. Scandinavian Airlines offers direct flights from San Francisco to Copenhagen. There is also an international airport in Malmö, but it’s much smaller than Copenhagen, so flight options might be fewer here. The closest airport is Kristianstad, but it’s tiny so unless you’re flying from Stockholm I wouldn’t count on finding a flight going here. Other airlines to consider: Wow air, Iceland Air, or any airline that flys to Europe and offers a connecting flight. See Jenny & Beau’s Wedding Map to learn more about locations.

Trains

From Copenhagen airport, it’s an easy train ride to Sweden (the station closest to the venue is Kristianstad) on the Øresund trains. You must purchase a ticket before boarding the train. There are ticket machines for Skånetrafiken in the baggage claim area of the airport and above the train platforms. Prices from CPH Airport to Kristianstad C: Adults: $24, Kids(<15): $12, 2 Adults + 3 Kids: $45 View Train Schedules

Car Rental

You may hire a car at Copenhagen airport, but keep in mind that the bridge toll is about 50 Euros. If you are a smaller group, take the train into Sweden and rent a car in Malmö or Kristianstad. There are a number of car rentals near Malmö Central. Find car rentals on all major travel sites.

Warning: Sweden has a BAC limit of .02% and stiff penalties if caught driving under the influence. We hope to arrange shuttle service on the day of the wedding, details TBD.

Accommodations

There are many accommodations available in castles, manors, hotels, hostels, cottages, cabins, farms, and the Swedish favorite: camping. If you plan to stay in Sweden for any length of time, and will have a car, camping is a great way to enjoy the vast outdoors.

Cabins

Many cabins are located near the beach which will make for a relaxing location.

Camping

Consider camping… for at least part of your stay. The Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten) is unique and the base for outdoor recreation in Sweden. It provides the possibility for everyone to visit somebody else’s land, to swim and travel by boat on somebody else’s waters, and to pick wild flowers, mushrooms, and berries.

We’re happy to suggest beautiful forest and meadow camping locations in Skåne.

Day Trip Ideas

Stenshuvud National Park

6km hike to the top of Stenshuvud (Sten’s head) for impressive views up and down the coast. Finish with a cider tasting at Kiviks Mustari.

  1. Drive south through the town of Kiviks. Stop at Buhres Fisk to see an impressive range of Swedish seafood.
  2. Visit the Kiviksgraven (kings grave) just south of Kiviks. Impressive (bronze age) pile of rocks with a tomb in the middle. Check out the old mill next to it; on the far-side of the mill you can see remains of the old gearing for the mill.
  3. Park at the trailhead to Naturum Stenshuvud, just south of Kiviks Mustari.
  4. Hike to the top of the hill while enjoying the diverse trees in this Arboretet i Hällevik (Arboretum).
  5. Enjoy the view from the west and east lookouts.
  6. Head down the south slope to the nature center.
  7. Take the trail back by the water.
  8. Walk the stone labyrinth by the beach.
  9. Notice the stone passage with the old blacksmith’s ruins.
  10. When you get back to where you parked, go across the road to Kiviks Mustari to taste all their various ciders and other fruit products.

Stackedala hike to Maltesholm Manor

This is an easy hike with some rolling hills and foot-bridge creek crossings with an optional side track to walk around Maltesholm manor. Beware the creatures in the moat! Also a great loop for a run. This hike is on our wedding map. Here is standalone map of the 7.3km course (orange markers).

  1. Drive to Stackedala parking lot (just south of the town of Tollarp).
  2. There is a map at the south end of the parking lot, but it’s in need of a little maintenance.
  3. Start your hike going east following the orange square trail markers in a counter-clockwise loop. (If going clockwise you may miss the markers.)
  4. The orange path will guide you for a 7.3km hike on paths and fire roads through the forest.
  5. At about 4.5km, there will be a road going south to Maltesholm Manor (see map)
  6. You will fist come across a small 2-level cottage with a trompe-l’œil face.
  7. Take a left at the intersection and you will see the main buildings. The gardens surrounding the manor are open to the public. Check out the moat.
  8. If you’d like a longer hike, head in the direction of the wind turbines and stand below the massive blades! (additional 6km loop)
  9. After you’ve seen the sites of the manor, head back to the orange trail, and back to the parking lot.

FAQs

What is the attire for your wedding?
We’re hoping you’ll enjoy this opportunity to dress your best. You know you look amazing when you’re all gussied up and ready to have some fun. It will be summer in Sweden and if we’re lucky the weather will be lovely; however there is always a chance of rain. Much of this event is indoors, but if the weather is nice we’ll be sure to enjoy the weather.
May we bring gifts? Do you have a registry?
Truly, you’re presence is present enough. As responsible adults who’ve already merged posessions into a single domestic living space… we really have all the toasters and fondue sets we need. Should you feel the need to provide us with a gift, as we don’t need more stuff, we’d be honored with a donation to our honeymoon (location TBD, but somewhere tropical for sure!) with a note regarding what you wish us to use your gift for: dinner, massage, adventure, matching tattoos?
Is this a child-friendly event?
We love your little ones and look forward to raising our own. Children are welcome to attend the ceremony at Lyngsjö Kyrka. We’re hoping to create a reception event where our adult friends can enjoy the evening together with limited distraction. Should there be enough interest, we may hire childcare on location in a building on the same premesis as the receiption, Lyngby Gård. Please let us know if you’re interested.
Does this event have a hashtag?
Why yes we do! Use #superluckyus when posting images from the event Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr. If we get our ducks in a line, we may even display photos with this hashtag somewhere at our wedding venue.
Your invitation website is great! May we share it with others?
Because we aren’t able to invite everyone in our lives to join in our wedding festivities, we’d rather you not share this invitation website.
